My name is Ellie, and I am truly The Longshoreman’s Daughter!
I grew up in Newfoundland, a stone’s throw from the Atlantic Ocean. My father was a longshoreman for over 40 years, working through sleet, snow, and freezing rain — and not once did he ever complain, no matter how exhausted he was. After long shifts, he’d even spend hours at night freezing layers of water over our summer garden to build me a skating rink — still, he never complained.
Summers were spent on picnics, berry picking and taking walks on the beach searching for our “treasures” — beautiful sea glass and sea pottery — with my dad and my grandfather (as his dad and grandfather did before him!). We knew every piece told a unique story: was it from a shipwreck, a far-off land, or a bottle carelessly tossed into the ocean decades ago from our little town?
Our original jewellery company began in 2020 as The Longshoreman’s Daughter, which created sea glass jewellery from all around the world. Proving to be wildly popular, it was clear that it wasn’t only me that loved these long-lost jewels from the sea!
However, I knew something was missing. I could not ignore the call of Georgian Bay!
I’ve been coming to Georgian Bay since I moved to Ontario almost 30 years ago and during that time, I have collected the most beautiful pieces of sea glass and sea pottery from its shores. After creating countless custom-made jewellery pieces for residents and visitors of Georgian Bay using sea glass collected from its spectacular beaches (and overwhelming requests to create more!) … Georgian Bay Jewellery was born!
